A real technical audit, not a vague score
Website Intelligence runs nine separate audit categories against your site (SEO, security, real Core Web Vitals, genuine axe-core accessibility checks, content, and AI/GEO readiness) and turns every finding into a specific, actionable issue instead of a single opaque number.
This guide walks through what each category actually checks and how the scoring works.
The Nine Audit Categories
Every audit runs through nine separate plugins, each producing its own score, issue list, and weighted contribution to your overall score.
- SEO (22% weight), Performance (18%), and Security (18%) carry the most weight in your overall score.
- Ecommerce (10%), Accessibility (9%), and Content (9%) come next, with AI Readiness (5%), Infrastructure (5%), and Domain (4%) rounding out the smaller-weighted categories.
- Each website's card shows an overall score and, on the Agency plan, the full category breakdown, so you can see exactly which area is dragging the average down instead of guessing from one number.
- Every audit records completedAt and an issue count, so you always know how current the data you're looking at is.
SEO Checks
The SEO plugin checks the fundamentals search engines actually use to understand and rank your page.
- Title tag presence and length: missing is Critical, under 30 characters is flagged Medium, over 60 characters is flagged Low (Google truncates long titles in results).
- Each issue explains both the SEO impact and, where relevant, what a search engine does in the absence of a fix. For example, a missing title means Google generates an arbitrary one from the URL or H1.
AI Readiness (GEO)
This is the category built specifically for how AI systems (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, Perplexity) find and cite your content, rather than traditional search ranking.
- llms.txt: checks for a /llms.txt file following the llmstxt.org standard. Missing it costs 20 points and comes with ready-to-use starter text for the fix.
- Structured data: checks for JSON-LD generally (missing costs 30 points, the single biggest AI Readiness penalty) and FAQPage schema specifically, since Q&A-formatted schema is one of the most effective ways to get cited in AI Overviews.
- AI crawler access: reads robots.txt for rules blocking GPTBot (OpenAI), ClaudeBot (Anthropic), or PerplexityBot. If any are disallowed, that's flagged High severity, since it means your content simply can't be indexed or cited by that system at all.
- Passage-level clarity: checks for clear H2–H6 headings and enough paragraph structure for AI systems to extract and cite individual passages accurately, rather than one wall of unstructured text.
Performance (Real Core Web Vitals)
Performance is measured with real lab data from a headless browser pass against your live site, not a simulated slow connection.
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): under 2.5s is good; 2.5–4s needs improvement (Medium severity); 4s+ is Critical and costs 25 points.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), First Contentful Paint (FCP), and Total Blocking Time (TBT) are captured the same way, each against Google's standard Core Web Vitals thresholds.
- Because these are Core Web Vitals, poor scores here are also a direct Google ranking factor, not just a UX nicety. The audit calls that out explicitly on LCP issues.
Security & Accessibility
Two more categories check whether your site is safe to visit and usable by everyone.
- Security: HTTPS is checked first. Serving over plain HTTP is a Critical issue worth 40 points, since it means all data between browser and server is unencrypted. HSTS header presence is checked next as a High-severity follow-up.
- Accessibility: runs axe-core against an actually rendered page, catching real WCAG violations (ARIA misuse, colour contrast, structural issues) that a static-HTML regex check can't see. Each violation's real-world impact (critical/serious/moderate/minor) maps directly to severity and score penalty.
- Every accessibility issue links to the exact axe-core rule and its documentation, so a fix isn't guesswork.
Plans & Competitor Tracking
Website Intelligence is an Agency-plan feature, scoped to one primary website per brand plus unlimited competitor tracking.
- Every plan below Agency sees a locked page explaining what unlocking gets you: full SEO/security/performance/AI-readiness audits, Core Web Vitals, scheduled re-scans, and competitor benchmarking.
- Add competitor websites for side-by-side score comparison. Those scores also surface in the Competitors list on Brand Hub.
- Critical/High severity SEO and AI Readiness issues from your latest audit feed directly into Brand Hub's SEO Agent and GEO Agent review queues, so triage doesn't require a separate trip back here.
Frequently Asked Questions
What plan do I need for Website Intelligence?
The Agency plan, which includes full SEO, security, performance, and AI-readiness audits, Core Web Vitals, scheduled re-scans, and competitor benchmarking for one website per brand.
What categories does an audit actually check?
SEO, Security, Performance, Accessibility, Content, AI Readiness, Infrastructure, Domain, and Ecommerce: nine plugin categories in total, each contributing a weighted score to the overall audit. SEO (22%), Performance (18%), and Security (18%) carry the heaviest weight; Ecommerce (10%), Accessibility (9%), Content (9%), AI Readiness (5%), Infrastructure (5%), and Domain (4%) make up the rest.
How is the AI Readiness (GEO) score calculated?
It checks whether your site has an /llms.txt file (the emerging llmstxt.org standard for guiding AI crawlers), whether you have JSON-LD structured data at all and FAQPage schema specifically, whether robots.txt is blocking AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or PerplexityBot, and whether your content is structured with clear headings and paragraphs for passage-level retrieval. Missing llms.txt or blocking AI crawlers are treated as the biggest issues.
Are the Core Web Vitals real or estimated?
They're real lab data captured via a headless browser pass against your actual site (LCP, CLS, FCP, and TBT), not a simulated or throttled estimate. Google's standard "good"/"needs improvement"/"poor" thresholds apply, e.g. LCP under 2.5s is good, 2.5–4s needs improvement, and 4s+ is poor.
Are accessibility issues real WCAG violations?
Yes. Website Intelligence runs axe-core against a real rendered page, which catches ARIA misuse, colour contrast failures, and structural issues that a static-HTML check would miss. Each violation's impact level (critical, serious, moderate, minor) maps to a severity and score penalty.
What does an individual issue actually tell me?
Every issue includes a severity, a plain-language description of the problem, a specific recommendation, an estimated fix time and difficulty, a priority score, and often reference links or ready-to-use fix code, not just a flagged score with no explanation.
Can I track competitors alongside my own site?
Yes. Websites can be added as competitors, and their last audit score shows up both in Website Intelligence and in the Competitors list on Brand Hub, so you can see how your score compares without running a separate tool.
How many websites can I audit?
One primary website per brand on the Agency plan, plus any number of competitor websites you add for benchmarking.
