Connecting Facebook & Instagram Business
BrandOps has two separate Meta-related connections that are easy to mix up: one for your own Instagram Business account, and another, Creator Insights, for looking up other creators' public profiles. This guide explains exactly what each one does and how they relate.
For the wider picture on every connection BrandOps offers, see the Integrations overview.
Two Separate Connections, Two Different Jobs
There's no single Facebook login that unlocks both of these; they're deliberately separate, in both Settings and in Meta's own permission system.
- BrandOps has two independent Meta-related connections in Settings → Integrations: "Meta" (your own Instagram account) and "Creator Insights" (a separate Facebook Business login). Connecting one does not connect the other.
- The Meta card connects your brand's own Instagram Business account. This is what powers your Instagram DM inbox, publishing, and performance stats inside BrandOps.
- The Creator Insights card is for looking up other creators' public Instagram profiles in the Creator CRM before you reach out to them; it has nothing to do with your own account's DMs or posts.
- Creator Insights is ecommerce-only: the card is gated to brands with Business Type set to Ecommerce, since that's where the Creator CRM itself lives.
Connecting Your Own Instagram (Meta Card)
This is the connection that runs your Instagram DM inbox and publishing.
- Click Connect Instagram on the Meta card. This connects your Instagram Business account via Meta Login and requires a Facebook Page linked to your Instagram account.
- The requested scopes cover reading your basic profile, managing DMs, reading insights, and content publishing.
- Once connected, the card shows your handle and a token-expiry countdown. A Reconnect option appears once your token is within 14 days of expiring, or has already expired.
Connecting Creator Insights (Facebook Business Card)
A completely separate OAuth flow, built for one narrow purpose: looking up other creators.
- Click Connect for Creator Insights on the Creator Insights card. This is Facebook Login for Business, a different product from the Meta card above, with its own scopes: instagram_basic, instagram_manage_insights, pages_show_list, and pages_read_engagement.
- It works by finding a Facebook Page you administer that has an Instagram Business or Creator account linked to it. If you already connected your own Instagram above, that same Page already qualifies and there's nothing extra to set up.
- BrandOps picks the first Page it finds with a linked Instagram account: if you manage several Pages, whichever one has Instagram linked (and comes back first from Facebook) is the one used.
- If no Page you administer has an Instagram Business/Creator account linked yet, the connection fails with a message telling you to link one in Meta Business Suite and try again.
What Creator Insights Actually Looks Up
Business Discovery, the Meta API behind this card, reads public profile data only.
- It looks up a public Instagram profile by username (name, bio, follower count, media count, and profile picture) using your connected Page's access token.
- It only works on public Business or Creator Instagram accounts; a private personal account returns nothing, since it's reading the same public data anyone visiting that profile could see.
- It can also pull like and comment counts for a specific recent post or reel by URL, matched against that creator's most recent 50 posts, which is useful for verifying a past collaboration's numbers.
- This is entirely read-only and separate from your own account: looking up a creator this way never touches your own Instagram DMs, posts, or followers.
Troubleshooting
A few common snags and what they usually mean.
- A lookup that fails for a creator who clearly exists on Instagram usually means their account isn't set up as a Business or Creator account, since Business Discovery can't resolve personal accounts.
- A rate-limited error means Meta is temporarily throttling lookups; wait a bit and try again rather than retrying immediately.
- If Creator Insights won't connect at all, check that you actually administer at least one Facebook Page in Meta Business Suite, and that some Instagram Business/Creator account (any one, not necessarily your brand's) is linked to it.
- Disconnecting either card is available any time from Settings → Integrations, and disconnecting one has no effect on the other; they're stored and managed completely independently.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I connect my own Instagram, do I also get Creator Insights automatically?
No. They're two separate OAuth connections with separate scopes. Connecting the Meta card only gets you your own account's DMs, posts, and stats; Creator Insights needs its own separate connect step.
Do I need my own brand's Instagram linked to a Facebook Page to use Creator Insights?
No. Creator Insights works off any Facebook Page you administer that has some Instagram Business/Creator account linked to it, not necessarily your own brand's.
Why is Creator Insights only available for some brands?
It's gated to Ecommerce brands, since that's where the Creator CRM it powers lives in BrandOps. Other business types won't see the card.
Can I look up a private Instagram account with Creator Insights?
No. Business Discovery only returns data for public Business or Creator accounts, so a private personal account returns nothing.
What Instagram account type do I need to connect the Meta card?
A Business account, not Creator: Business accounts get the messaging-API access level BrandOps' DM inbox needs, while Creator accounts have a more limited tier for that specific feature.
I manage multiple Facebook Pages: which one does Creator Insights use?
BrandOps uses the first Page it finds on your Facebook account that has an Instagram Business/Creator account linked. If you need a different Page used, adjust which Pages have Instagram linked before reconnecting.
Can I look up a past collaboration's like/comment counts on a specific post?
Yes. Creator Insights can match a post or reel URL against that creator's most recent 50 posts and return its like and comment counts, as long as the post is still within their most recent 50.
Ready to connect?
